Use 1-2-4-All when you need to quickly gather input from a large group, generate a wide range of ideas, or foster a sense of shared ownership in the outcome. It's particularly useful after a presentation or when addressing a complex problem.

How to run 1-2-4-All, step by step

  1. Pose a clear, focused question related to the topic at hand. (Facilitator, 1 min)
  2. Individual Reflection: Participants silently reflect on the question and jot down their ideas. (Participants, 1 min)
  3. Pair Sharing: Participants pair up and share their ideas, building on each other's thoughts. (Participants, 2 min)
  4. Foursome Sharing: Pairs join another pair to form a group of four, sharing and developing their ideas further. (Participants, 4 min)
  5. Whole Group Sharing: Each group of four shares one key idea with the entire group. (Participants, 5 min)

Facilitator tips
