Freeze Action

Freeze Action is a dynamic energizer that fosters group awareness and focus through observation and mimicry. It encourages spontaneous interaction and collective action, building a sense of shared experience and promoting non-verbal communication.

When to use Freeze Action

Use this method at the beginning of a workshop or meeting to energize participants, break down barriers, and create a lighthearted atmosphere. It's particularly effective when you need to improve team cohesion and encourage active participation.

What it solves

Lack of energy in the room, reluctance to participate, feeling of disconnect among team members.

How to run Freeze Action, step by step

  1. Lay out We Connect Cards (or similar action prompts) face up. (2 minutes)
  2. Instruct participants to spread out in an open area and walk around silently. (1 minute)
  3. After approximately 10 seconds, anyone can stop walking and perform the action on their card.
  4. Others who observe the action should join in, mimicking the movement. (Ongoing)
  5. The round ends when everyone is performing the same action. Record the time it took for the group to synchronize. (2 minutes)
  6. Repeat for multiple rounds, challenging the group to improve their synchronization time. (5 minutes)

Facilitator tips

  • Encourage participants to be creative and expressive with their actions.

Common pitfalls

  • Participants feeling self-conscious or hesitant to perform actions. Encourage a supportive and non-judgmental environment.

  • Introduce a 'leader' who initiates the action.
