Interview

The Interview method is a direct way to gather insights and understand the perspectives of the people you are designing for. By engaging in structured conversations, you can uncover their needs, desires, and motivations, leading to more human-centered solutions.

When to use Interview

Use this method during the early stages of a design project when you need to deeply understand your target audience. It's particularly useful when you lack direct experience with the user group or need to validate assumptions.

What it solves

Lack of empathy and understanding of user needs, leading to solutions that don't resonate with the target audience.

How to run Interview, step by step

  1. Prepare a list of open-ended questions, starting broad and becoming more specific. (15 minutes)
  2. Assign roles to team members: interviewer, note-taker, photographer (if applicable). (5 minutes)
  3. Conduct the interview in the interviewee's environment, if possible. (45-60 minutes)
  4. Focus on direct quotes and observe body language and context. (Ongoing)
  5. Debrief as a team immediately after the interview to capture key takeaways and insights. (15 minutes)
