Product Pitch Challenge
Teams are given a ridiculous or mundane object and must create a high-stakes 'Shark Tank' style pitch to sell it. This encourages creative marketing, rapid ideation, and public speaking skills.
When to use Product Pitch Challenge
To practice persuasive communication and 'out of the box' thinking in a fun, competitive format.
What it solves
Stale thinking or lack of confidence when presenting new ideas to stakeholders.
How to run Product Pitch Challenge, step by step
- Assign each breakout group a random object (e.g., a broken paperclip, a used tissue).
- Groups have 15 minutes to name the product, define a target audience, and create a 60-second pitch.
- Each group performs their pitch for the 'judges' (the rest of the team).
- Vote on the 'Most Likely to Succeed' and 'Most Creative' pitches.
Materials needed
- Random object list
- Shared slide deck
- Timer
Facilitator tips
- Encourage teams to use 'features and benefits' logic to make the pitches sound professional.
- Provide a simple pitch template (Problem, Solution, Cost) to help them structure their thoughts.
Common pitfalls
- Groups spending too much time on the 'product' and not enough on the 'pitch'
- Technical issues with screen sharing during the performance
Variations
- Internal Pitch (pitching a real process improvement for the company)
Running it online or hybrid
Use collaborative slides (Google Slides/Canva) so hybrid teams can build their 'pitch deck' simultaneously.
What it produces
A 1-minute 'elevator pitch' and a visual representation of the product.
