Sensory Floor Walk

Participants remove their shoes and walk mindfully within their space, focusing entirely on the sensations in their feet. This movement-based meditation breaks the 'sitting' fatigue and grounds the participant in their physical environment.

When to use Sensory Floor Walk

To re-energize a group during a long session without using high-intensity exercise.

What it solves

Physical lethargy and 'Zoom fatigue' from sitting for hours.

How to run Sensory Floor Walk, step by step

  1. Invite participants to stand up and, if comfortable, remove their shoes/socks. (1 min)
  2. Ask them to walk very slowly in a small circle or back and forth. (3 min)
  3. Prompt them to notice the transition of weight from heel to toe and the texture of the floor. (2 min)
  4. Return to the screen and share one physical sensation noticed. (1 min)

Materials needed

  • A safe, clear floor space

Facilitator tips

  • Play soft, ambient music during the walk.
  • Remind them this isn't about getting anywhere, just about the sensation of walking.

Common pitfalls

  • Safety hazards in the participants' rooms.
  • Participants feeling awkward about being barefoot on camera (make camera-off an option).

Variations

  • If space is limited, do a 'standing scan' where they just shift weight while stationary.

Running it online or hybrid

Ensure participants have a safe space to move. In a hybrid room, ensure the 'walkers' don't bump into furniture.

What it produces

Physical rejuvenation and mental reset.
