Shake Down
A high-energy physical reset involving rhythmic shaking of limbs in a descending count. It is designed to physically discharge tension and rapidly increase the group's heart rate and presence.
When to use Shake Down
To provide a 'palette cleanser' after a heavy data session or to wake up a group after a lunch break.
What it solves
Low physical energy, 'Zoom fatigue', or a lethargic atmosphere.
How to run Shake Down, step by step
- Ask everyone to stand and ensure they have a bit of space (1 min).
- Lead the group in shaking the right arm 8 times, then left arm 8 times, then right leg 8, then left leg 8 (1 min).

- The facilitator must lead with high energy; if you are enthusiastic, they will be too.
- Count the numbers out loud together.
Common pitfalls
- Participants staying muted; the vocal counting is part of the energizing effect.
Variations
- Silent Shake Down: Do it in complete silence for a different, more focused energy.
Running it online or hybrid
