How to run Culture Mapping, step by step

  1. Introduce the concept of culture mapping (5 min). Explain the purpose and benefits of creating cultural maps.
  2. Present a cultural dimensions framework (10 min). Examples: individualism vs. collectivism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance.
  3. Divide participants into small groups (5 min).
  4. Ask each group to choose two cultures to map (10 min).
  5. Using the cultural dimensions framework, each group creates a visual representation of the two cultures (20 min).
  6. Facilitate a discussion about the cultural maps (10 min). Compare and contrast the different cultures and discuss potential areas of conflict.
